Unbridled Books announced today that it has sold the trade paperback rights for Margaret Cezair-Thompson’s surprise fall hit, THE PIRATE’S DAUGHTER, in a significant six-figure deal, to Jane von Mehren at Random House.
THE PIRATE’S DAUGHTER is the number one Book Sense Pick for October and has been called this fall’s sleeper sensation. The novel has earned rave reviews from booksellers, reviewers, and advance readers across the country.
THE PIRATE’S DAUGHTER, which has a publication date of October 15, 2007, was inspired by Errol Flynn’s accidental arrival in Jamaica in 1946. Spanning two generations of women whose destinies become inextricably linked with the matinee idol’s, this lively novel tells the story of a vanished era, of uncommon kinships, forbidden passions, betrayal and atonement in a paradisal, tropical setting. As adept with Jamaican vernacular as she is at revealing the internal machinations of a fading Hollywood star, Margaret Cezair-Thompson weaves a saga of a mother and daughter finding their way in a colonial nation that is struggling to rise to the challenge of independence.
Margaret Cezair-Thompson is the author of a previous novel, The True History of Paradise. Born in Jamaica, West Indies, she teaches literature and creative writing at Wellesley College.
Unbridled Books is the independent press founded by Fred Ramey and Greg Michalson.
